Job Description:

Applications are invited for the above role, to work within a team of specialists to deliver imaging services to support researchers in the School of Life Sciences and across the University. The role holder will assist users of the School of Life Sciences Imaging facility (SLIM) in obtaining high quality digital images for publication purposes and contribute to the technological development of imaging systems.

This is a key role sitting within the SLIM team to provide and manage technical specialist training in light microscopy for all users, supporting colleagues with complex imaging projects and applications for research needs, for this role requires the role holder to have knowledge and experience in the use of high-end wide field (WF) and confocal systems. This role also has a requirement to support a specialist histology area, using in depth skills and knowledge of histology methods to provide technical expertise and advice across work undertaken for specific equipment and techniques including cryostats, wax sectioning, tissue processors, tissue clearing and associated software packages.

Candidates must hold an HNC qualification or equivalent, plus substantial work experience in a relevant role or have a proven track record with extensive work experience in a relevant technical or scientific role. The role holder must have proven technical and/or experimental expertise in light microscopy alongside proven analytical and technical problem-solving skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential for this role.

Candidates must have the ability to manage and develop a technically demanding mixture of modern advanced microscopy equipment within the facility.

This position is offered on a permanent basis. Hours are full time (36.25 hours per week). Job share arrangements may be considered.
