The Department of Classics and Archaeology at the University of Nottingham is looking to appoint a Teaching Associate in Classics (Greek-focussed).We believe in an inclusive working environment for all. You will be responsible for convening and teaching Ancient Greek from Beginner’s to Advanced level, and convening and contributing to the undergraduate modules Extended Source Study, Interpreting Ancient Art and Archaeology, and Dissertations. You will also contribute to Study Classical Scholarship and supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate dissertations. You may also contribute to undergraduate teaching on broader first year introductory modules where appropriate.You must have a PhD already awarded in a relevant subject area or to be awarded by time of appointment and show evidence of ability to teach in the areas outlined above.The well-being and development of our students is of utmost importance to us, so the successful candidate will take a proactive role in the pastoral support of students. About the roleYou will play a role in supporting the management, coordinating, and delivering assessments across the undergraduate Veterinary modules. This includes ExamSys papers, Observed Structured Clinical and Practical assessments (OSPE/CEs), and coursework submissions. As part of the School’s Assessments Team, you will ensure that all administrative, logistical, and regulatory elements of assessment delivery are carefully planned and executed, supporting a fair, well-organised, and positive experience for students, academics, and examiners.Working closely with colleagues across the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science including academic teams, clinical skills staff, and professional services you will help ensure assessment processes are robust, compliant, and consistently delivered to a high standard. You will contribute to assessment activity across the undergraduate course, supporting both day-to-day operational delivery and the ongoing review and improvement of assessment practices. The role requires flexibility in working hours to support on-site examinations and provide hands-on operational oversight. You will also be expected to work at Sutton Bonington Campus. The duties described provide a framework for the role but are not exhaustive. You may be asked to undertake other reasonable responsibilities appropriate to the grade and purpose of the post, and you will be expected to work flexibly to support Professional Services activity across the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science.About the TeamThe role sits within the delivery arm of the Assessments Team in at the University of Nottingham’s School of Veterinary Medicine and Science. The team will be four APM staff and is responsible for the delivery and continuous improvement of assessments across the undergraduate programme. Our demanding assessment schedule within a dual cohort includes: 8,000 summative exams and 2,000 coursework submissions annually, 100 lab based practical exams and 300 vivas, administration of 4,200 OSCE and OSPE stations using live animals, models, and cadavers. Working closely with academic colleagues, external examiners, and invigilators. Research Fellow in Ion Channel Pharmacology, Faculty of Biological SciencesSalary: Grade 7 (£41,064 - £48,822 p.a.)This role will be based on the university campus. We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements.Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in ion channel research? Do you want to further your career in one of the UKs leading research intensive Universities?We are researching pharmacological treatments for KCNT1-associated childhood epileptic disorders, for which there is presently no effective therapy. KCNT1 mutations cause an increase in KNa1.1 potassium channel activity and we have used protein structure-based virtual screening to identify novel potassium channel inhibitors. The research builds on our previous work in this area (see Cole et al., 2020, iScience and Caseley et al.,2026, Eur. J. Med. Chem.) and aims to progress hit candidates to lead molecules for further development as a drug. We are looking for a candidate with experience in ion channel function or pharmacology who would like to apply their expertise in the discovery of potential treatments for a rare neurological disorder. The role, funded by Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, will involve pharmacological characterisation of KNa1.1-inhibiting molecules using fluorescence microplate reader assays, manual and automated patch clamp electrophysiology. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing our understanding of how compounds inhibit potassium channels, and which chemical properties determine their potency and selectivity.
