    Job Description:

    INTERNAL VACANCY

This vacancy is open to employees of the University of Nottingham only.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Support and Wellbeing Service, part of the Student and Campus Life Division, as a Support and Wellbeing Practitioner, linking closely with students in the Faculty of Engineering.

This is an exciting frontline role providing practical and emotional ongoing support and interventions to students with complex wellbeing needs. This will include students accessing safeguarding services, students going through disciplinary processes and those with ongoing mental health support requirements that don’t meet the threshold of other University services. You will also work extensively with other University wellbeing services and external agencies where required to provide a collaborative approach to support the wellbeing of these identified students.

The Support and Wellbeing Team is split into smaller sub-teams based around academic faculties and/or campus locations. While the role holder will be embedded, line managed and supported as a member of the Support and Wellbeing Team, they will also work closely within the Faculty of Engineering. The role holder will build strong professional networks with the Senior Tutors, Personal Tutors and others in their specific schools, which will be used to disseminate information, share best practice and inform the school’s approach to managing complex cases.

This is a unique role, where the post holder will deliver a specialist practitioner advice service (on a 1-2-1 basis) bespoke to meet the needs of students from their particular Faculty, and will receive pre-filtered referrals from Support and Wellbeing Officers. Our support can be accessed in a variety of ways with students being advised via face-to-face appointments, video calls, telephone appointments, or by email. An important part or the role involves advising students with difficult or challenging wellbeing circumstances, supporting them to follow the relevant university policies and processes.

You will have a degree or equivalent, and a proven track record of extensive relevant work experience, for example in a student support role. You will be highly motivated, organised, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating sound judgment under pressure. We welcome applications from people committed to delivering a high quality, professional service to our students and academics, and have a pro-active and flexible attitude to work.

We welcome applications from everyone and value the varied perspectives and experiences that a diverse team can bring. We are particularly keen to receive applications from people who are currently underrepresented in wellbeing support in the UK, such as racially minoritized backgrounds.

    What we offer:

    • A friendly, diverse, and supportive working environment
    • Generous holiday entitlement of 30 days (or pro rata) plus standard bank holidays and five university closure days including closure between Christmas and New Year.
    • We are committed to staff development through the provision of training, continued support, and career progression opportunities

This position is offered on a permanent basis. Hours are full-time (36.25 hrs per week) which will usually involve a minimum of 4 days per week on campus with one day a week home working. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Further information is available in the role profile. To apply for this vacancy please click ‘Apply Now’ to complete your details.

Please contact Jonathan Kavanagh [email protected] if you have further questions about this role. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
