    Are you seeking to begin your career as a paralegal, developing your knowledge of data protection and in-house legal services within a professional higher education environment?

    Would you value the opportunity to gain practical experience in drafting legal documents and supporting Data Protection compliance?

    Reporting to the Data Protection Manager in Governance, Assurance & Legal Services, you will provide support on data protection and in-house legal services matters and the effective maintenance of legal and regulatory compliance. The main focus of the role is to support the processing of Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and to assist in delivering in-house legal advice to the University.

    You will need the ability to operate using your own initiative, collaborating with staff across internal directorates and schools, and managing a workload with competing demands and priorities. Using consistent, positive and persuasive communications is a key feature of this role.

    As DPIA Coordinator and Paralegal you can expect to be involved in:

    • Helping to ensure that Data Protection policies and guidance are followed for all DPIAs
    • Providing written and face to face advice, guidance and assistance to staff who are tasked with completing a DPIA
    • Assisting the Deputy Director (Legal and Compliance Services) in delivering legal advice to the University
    • Drafting and reviewing formal legal documents, such as contracts, as well as correspondence with internal clients and other parties

    What will you bring to the role?

    • Education to A Level and work experience in a relevant role
    • Experience of handling personal and confidential information
    • The ability to establish effective and efficient procedures that adhere to policies
    • A willingness to learn and develop knowledge of the legal requirements relevant to higher education
