Job Description:
Ranked 29th in the world (QS 2026) English Language at the University of Leeds has a strong reputation for the quality of both its research and its teaching. Based in the School of English, the English Language team has research expertise in corpus linguistics, dialectology, digital humanities, the politics of language, sociolinguistics and stylistics. We wish to appoint an outstanding teacher and scholar with a background in digital humanities-enabled English Language research. This might include but is not limited to: corpus linguistics and text analysis, computational linguistics, artificial intelligence, digital/interactive media, forensic linguistics, or sociolinguistic approaches.
As a Lecturer at Grade 7 or 8, you will have a completed PhD in English Language, Linguistics, Digital Humanities or a related area, and will have experience of teaching at undergraduate, and/or postgraduate levels. You will be able to contribute to our existing undergraduate programmes, BA English Language and Literature, and BA English Language and Linguistics, and to the MA in Digital Humanities and Cultures which launches in September 2026. You will be an active scholar developing your profile as a researcher in your area of academic specialism, and will play an active role in the research and impact activities of the School and the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. You will have produced high quality research outputs and impact commensurate with your career stage.
At Grade 8, you will have experience of leading teams, contributing to module and programme design, and playing a role in School-level decision-making. You may also have experience of supervising research projects at Masters and PhD level.
