    About the role

    We are seeking an experienced and proactive Operations Manager (Core Operations & Research & Knowledge Exchange) to join the School of Sociology and Social Policy. This is a key operational leadership role within the School, responsible for managing and coordinating professional services support across core operational activity and research-related functions.

    Working as part of the School's operational management team, you will collaborate closely with the Senior Operations Manager, Academic Directors, Faculty colleagues and central Professional Services teams to ensure the efficient delivery of services that support the School's strategic priorities.

    A typical day could involve providing operational advice to senior leaders, managing governance and assurance activities, overseeing budgets and resources, supporting staff recruitment and development, coordinating research-related processes, monitoring performance against strategic objectives, and leading service improvement initiatives. The role also plays a key part in supporting the School's research environment, including preparation for REF and oversight of research support activities.

    About the team

    The School of Sociology and Social Policy is part of a vibrant academic community committed to delivering excellence in education, research and societal impact. The Operations Manager will be a member of the School's operational management team, working alongside the Senior Operations Manager, academic leaders, Faculty colleagues and specialist teams across the University.

    The role includes line management responsibilities for professional services colleagues and requires strong partnership working across a wide range of stakeholders. You will work collaboratively with colleagues in Research & Innovation, Registry and Academic Affairs, Faculty Professional Services and Central Professional Services teams to deliver seamless support to staff and students.

    About you

    You will bring:

    · Experience of managing or supporting teams and developing colleagues to achieve shared objectives.

    · Strong organisational, planning and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

    · Experience of coordinating projects and working effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

    · Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to influence and work collaboratively at all levels.

    · Experience of operational management, including continuous improvement, performance monitoring and financial administration.
