    Job Description:

    We are seeking a Post-doctoral Research Fellow to work on the Velux Fonden project, based at the University of Southampton, on a fixed-term contract initially for 24 months with the opportunity for extension to 36 months.

    The Research Fellow will support the development of GIS-based decision-support-tools for spatial planning, and cumulative effects assessment (CEA) of offshore wind (OW). The role will focus on collecting, processing, and harmonising appropriate geospatial data, providing geospatial data insights, and applying appropriate AI models for geospatial analysis based on the integrated data.

    This role is part of the project: Decision-support-tools for Spatial Planning and Cumulative Effects Analysis (CEA) of OW in the Greater North Sea Basin (GNSB), funded by the Velux Fonden. The project is cross-disciplinary and delivered by researchers across the University of Southampton through the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute (SMMI).

    We are seeking candidates with a PhD or equivalent professional qualification in civil/maritime/ocean engineering, geography, oceanography, marine sciences, geology, archaeology, or other, with experience in advanced GIS software for data management, processing & analysis, and preferably, interests & knowledge of offshore renewable energy. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing an integrated multi-disciplinary geospatial database across the GNSB and contributing to the creation and evaluation of GIS-based decision-support-tools to ensure functionality, usability, and data accuracy.

    The role involves holistic design of decision-support-tools as part of a team with expertise spanning offshore-geotechnical-engineering, marine-ecology, archaeology, and coastal-communities. The role will provide many opportunities to expand the successful applicant’s network, in academia, industry, coastal communities, and policy-making, through project meetings, workshops and conferences.
