We are seeking a Registered Mental Health Nurses active on the NMC register to join the Mental Health Nursing Team in the Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Health at the University of Southampton. The team is experienced, friendly, and supportive and is enthusiastic and committed to developing the Mental Health Nurses of the future. Mental Health Nurses with experience working with children, young people and their families, as well as those with extensive knowledge of working with older people, would complement our current team.You will be involved in the face-to-face delivery of our nationally recognised pre-registration BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing, our Integrated Masters of Nursing leading to registration as a Mental Health/Adult Nurse or Children’s/Mental Health Nurse, and our 2 year MSc Mental Health Nursing programme. You will have an exceptional understanding of issues facing contemporary clinical practice in Mental Health Nursing founded in your own clinical practice. We are looking for someone who shares our passion for outstanding nurse education and has a dynamic vision for how education and research can transform mental health care across the lifespan. You will have completed a Masters level qualification and ideally have educational experience. The team plays an important role in supporting the School’s laboratory, research, and teaching activities.As a Laboratory Technical Officer, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of undergraduate laboratory teaching, primarily in molecular biology, with scope to support additional disciplines as required. You will work closely with academic staff to develop and deliver laboratory sessions, prepare teaching materials, and provide technical support across both laboratory and research activities, contributing to the smooth running of teaching and research operations across the School.This is a varied role within a collaborative team. Key requirements:Broad knowledge and practical experience in a variety of molecular biology techniques, including, for example:Extraction/purification of DNA and RNA.PCR amplification (including qPCR) and gel electrophoresis.Basic cloning and transformation methods.Protein purification and SDS-PAGE.Basic familiarity with techniques used in some of the following areas to provide back-up support to the team in microbiology, biochemistry and cell culture.Experience working in a teaching or research laboratory environment.Familiarity with confocal microscopy and photomicroscopy, or the ability to become proficient in these techniques.Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
