The Department of Classics and Archaeology at the University of Nottingham is looking to appoint a Teaching Associate in Classics (Greek-focussed).We believe in an inclusive working environment for all. The application form has criteria-based questions based on the person specification, rather than CV or cover letter.Your role as a Teaching Associate will be varied and challenging and you will be able to demonstrate a strong teaching ability in classics. You will be responsible for convening and teaching Ancient Greek from Beginner’s to Advanced level, and convening and contributing to the undergraduate modules Extended Source Study, Interpreting Ancient Art and Archaeology, and Dissertations. You will also contribute to Study Classical Scholarship and supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate dissertations. You may also contribute to undergraduate teaching on broader first year introductory modules where appropriate.You must have a PhD already awarded in a relevant subject area or to be awarded by time of appointment and show evidence of ability to teach in the areas outlined above.The well-being and development of our students is of utmost importance to us, so the successful candidate will take a proactive role in the pastoral support of students. About the roleYou will play a role in supporting the management, coordinating, and delivering assessments across the undergraduate Veterinary modules. This includes ExamSys papers, Observed Structured Clinical and Practical assessments (OSPE/CEs), and coursework submissions. As part of the School’s Assessments Team, you will ensure that all administrative, logistical, and regulatory elements of assessment delivery are carefully planned and executed, supporting a fair, well-organised, and positive experience for students, academics, and examiners.Working closely with colleagues across the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science including academic teams, clinical skills staff, and professional services you will help ensure assessment processes are robust, compliant, and consistently delivered to a high standard. You will contribute to assessment activity across the undergraduate course, supporting both day-to-day operational delivery and the ongoing review and improvement of assessment practices. The role requires flexibility in working hours to support on-site examinations and provide hands-on operational oversight. You will also be expected to work at Sutton Bonington Campus. The duties described provide a framework for the role but are not exhaustive. You may be asked to undertake other reasonable responsibilities appropriate to the grade and purpose of the post, and you will be expected to work flexibly to support Professional Services activity across the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science.About the TeamThe role sits within the delivery arm of the Assessments Team in at the University of Nottingham’s School of Veterinary Medicine and Science. The team will be four APM staff and is responsible for the delivery and continuous improvement of assessments across the undergraduate programme. Our demanding assessment schedule within a dual cohort includes: 8,000 summative exams and 2,000 coursework submissions annually, 100 lab based practical exams and 300 vivas, administration of 4,200 OSCE and OSPE stations using live animals, models, and cadavers. Working closely with academic colleagues, external examiners, and invigilators. The team operates in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a strong focus on professionalism, inclusivity, operational excellence, and service development.About youYou will bring relevant qualifications or substantial experience in further or higher education, alongside strong administrative experience, data handling and reporting skills, and a sound understanding of GDPR. The Opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi
This role is responsible for leading the day-to-day operation, support, and continuous improvement of AUT’s HR technology and reporting systems, including Snaphire, Technology1, and ServiceNow.
You will lead a small team while remaining close to the work—supporting problem solving, improving system functionality, and ensuring delivery across a busy and varied work programme. The work spans business-as-usual requests, cyclical processes, and roadmap enhancements. This is a hands-on role in a high-demand environment, where your ability to balance competing priorities, support your team, and build strong working relationships will be key.
You will work closely with People & Culture, ICT, Finance, Strategy & Planning and vendors to manage demand, prioritise work, and deliver practical solutions that improve efficiency, compliance, and user experience. Alongside systems development, the role also contributes to improving HR reporting and analytics capability.
This is a primarily operational role focused on delivery and continuous improvement rather than strategic or product leadership.
