This is a fixed term post until 06/07/2026 to cover maternity leave.Southampton Clinical Trials UnitThe University of Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU) is a Cancer Research UK core-funded, UKCRC registered trials unit. The unit supports researchers across the UK and internationally to help design, conduct, analyse and disseminate clinical trials and observational studies that target important clinical and social health care questions.The roleThe unit is seeking to employ a senior medical statistician with experience of working on clinical trials in a regulated environment. The post is covering maternity leave, and will have responsibilities for delivering the urological cancer portfolio, which includes two large phase 3 trials in bladder and prostate cancer. You will work with junior statisticians and statistical programmers to oversee delivery of trial reports. You will plan work and communicate with the Head of Group in Statistics to support management of workload across the team. You will lead communication with chief investigators and the wider trial team on methodological issues, and more broadly support the SCTU to deliver the assigned trials.The role requires knowledge of the application of statistical methods to cancer trials, as well as activities relating to obtaining funding and dissemination of study results. Familiarity with statistical software such as Stata, SAS and/or R is essential. About the role The Senior Research Development and Training Manager is a senior role within the Faculty of Engineering’s Research and Knowledge Exchange (ERKE) team. You will lead a portfolio of activities to increase quality and success rates of funding applications, and embed research excellence in the development process.You will be responsible for coordinating research development activities across the team, as well as overseeing the continued development and delivery of our comprehensive training and mentoring programmes to our research community. You will actively engage and work closely with research groups across the faculty, as well as internal and external research networks such as Engineering Research Futures, Research Development (RDN) , and the Researcher Academy. About the teamYou will join the Engineering Research and Knowledge Exchange (ERKE) team, a collaborative and supportive group of research professionals embedded within the Faculty of Engineering. The team works closely with Faculty Operations, academic staff, and central University functions to support the full research lifecycle and to help the Faculty deliver against its strategic RKE objectives and KPIs.The team values professionalism, inclusivity, shared expertise, and continuous improvement, and plays a vital role in enabling worldâclass research at the University. About youYou will be experienced in research and training development, ideally within a University or related context.
