We seek an exceptional Director of Procurement and Commercial to lead procurement, commercial and contract management for the University. This senior role will shape how the University secures value, manages commercial risk and delivers outcome-focused services through external suppliers.You will lead a function of around 25 colleagues, developing a unified, customer-focused culture. You will establish the procurement and commercial strategy, build a forward plan for external spend, and ensure supplier relationships and contracts support financial sustainability, supply chain security and strategic objectives.About the roleAs our senior procurement and commercial authority, you will advise senior leaders on major procurement, commercial and contract matters, including high-value and high-risk projects. You will oversee complex negotiations, strengthen contract and supplier relationship management, and ensure governance, probity and risk-based controls across external spend of approximately £300 million per annum.You will be a key member of the Finance Executive Leadership Team, working closely with the University Executive Board, Executive Directors, and senior stakeholders. You will be commercially astute, confident in high-value negotiations and experienced in governance frameworks that protect probity while enabling effective decisions.You will have a strong record of leading teams through change, setting strategic direction and building trusted relationships across organisational boundaries. The postholder will teach a range of classes in acting fundamentals and collaborative principles and will have experience of broad, rigorous actor training with strong knowledge of key methodologies which may include Lecoq, Michael Chekhov, Stanislavski, Meisner, Viewpoints, and others. Depending on individual skillsets and interests, the postholder may also lead devised/adaptation rehearsal projects, with potential opportunities to direct in-house and public productions. Job DescriptionTe Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity A Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Chronobiology Research Group at the University of Auckland is available for a project entitled:“Spying on the secret lives of bees: Understanding the importance of eusocial clocks for honeybee behaviour”We have a 20-month position for a post-doctoral scientist to work with us on a Marsden funded grant in which we are investigating honey bee behaviour by monitoring the patterns of electrostatic fields signatures they produce inside the hive. Using a systems approach, and new technology which allows us to measure the electrostatic charge signatures bees produce and use to communicate inside the hive, we will establish how the honeybee super-clock is controlled in its natural state.Robust daily rhythms are essential to the health and well-being of all organisms, and the breakdown of rhythms can even be used to reliably predict death. Honey bees have a complex social structure controlled by their daily (circadian) clock. This clock is at the heart of the colony structure, and without it the colony cannot function. We currently have a poor understanding of how the honeybee clock ticks. This is because it has not been possible to observe behaviour inside the hive without opening it, which damages the colony and disrupts behaviour.In this project we will use new cutting-edge technology (bee spy) to non-invasively study the honeybee clock in its natural state for the first time.
