Institution Description:
The University of Auckland
The University of Auckland is New Zealand’s pre-eminent research-led University. Established in 1883, it is an international centre of learning and academic excellence. With just over 5,200 staff and more than 41,000 students, studying across eight academic faculties on five campuses, the University of Auckland is the largest and most comprehensive university in New Zealand. It is New Zealand’s only university ranked in the top 100 in the QS World University Rankings, and with the maximum rating of Five Stars Plus in the QS Stars University Ratings.
The University of Auckland has a strong international focus with 6,700 international students from 110 countries. It is the only NZ member of Universitas 21, the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), and the Association of Pacific Rim Universities – international consortia of research-led universities.
The University of Auckland, including two large-scale research institutes, provides unique opportunities for interdisciplinary studies and conjoint degrees. Auckland also has an extremely successful graduate school, the largest annual number of postgraduate research student completions and the highest level of research income. Its research commercialisation company, Auckland UniServices Ltd, generates an income of over NZ$135 million per annum. The University of Auckland is also recognised by the MIT Skoltech Initiative as one of five emerging world-leading universities in entrepreneurship.
Auckland’s harbour setting, magnificent beaches and verdant bush make it a great place to study and work, while the University’s close proximity to New Zealand’s major businesses and hospitals enables staff and students to rub shoulders with leading practitioners in their field. Home to New Zealand’s commercial centre and busiest international airport, Auckland is a cosmopolitan city with 1.5m residents. Auckland offers a diverse range of employment and leisure options, including easy access to high quality schools which prepare students extremely well for the transition to university.
