Job Description:

The University of Surrey unites a global community of people and ideas, advancing life-changing education and research. We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee. Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively make a real difference.

The School of Arts, Humanities and Creative Industries at the University of Surrey incorporates Literature and Languages, Music and Media and the Guildford School of Acting, one of the most highly regarded conservatoires in the UK. The School has a vibrant community of researchers, performers, performance makers, creative practitioners, writers, engineers and technicians graduating from our wide variety of programmes each year.

The role

We are seeking an exceptional Administrator to take up the post of Senior Administrative Officer, within the Operations team for the School. The post holder will provide high level support to the Head of School, and will also be lead administrator for Literature and Languages. The position will also provide senior administrative support to Guildford School of Acting, reporting in to the School Manager.

Administrative requirements include meeting organisation and support, travel coordination, finance processing, tracking annual leave, managing and monitoring resources (keys, stationery, first aid kits etc). As a Senior Administrative Officer, you will take the lead on designated events and conferences, working alongside the School’s Operations team; this might include Surrey New Writers Festival, Surrey Poetry Festival, Book Launches, Visiting Lectures, Applicants days and supporting student led events.

About you

You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills combined with excellent organisational and administrative skills. Ideally, you will be familiar with, or will have experience working in, a HE environment, and experience of managing diaries and coordinating events and activities. You will enjoy working autonomously whilst also being a team player. You will be able to manage your own workload, often with conflicting demands from a wide range of colleagues. The post holder will work closely with academics as well as professional services colleagues and students, covering a wide range of subject areas.

What we can offer

As a new colleague at Surrey you will join a thriving HE creative community, working with excellent colleagues and students. In addition to a competitive salary, you will receive an annual incremental pay rise, generous annual leave entitlement of 25 days holiday plus 7 university closure days and 8 bank holidays, a market leading pension, access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes, and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery.

We would particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups, such as people from the Global majority, people with disabilities and those identifying as female, non-binary or trans.

For an informal discussion about this post, please contact Pippa Treharne, Manager of the School of Arts, Humanities and Creative Industries [email protected]
