Are you a motivated Researcher with an interest in investigating the causes and consequences of resistance to foreign presence in the developing world? Are you experienced in database construction? If so, this exciting opportunity may be an ideal role for you.
The School of Politics and International Relations wishes to appoint motivated Research Assistants to join the team led by Dr Jamie Gruffydd-Jones on his Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) project ‘Resistance to External Powers in the Developing World’ which investigates the causes and consequences of resistance to foreign presence, with a particular focus on China’s growing influence. Please note that you must be proficient in researching and reading Chinese language sources to be suitable for this role.
As Research Assistant you can expect to be involved in:
- Creating, developing, cleaning and managing the database
- Assisting with analysis, interpretation, and visualisation of data in a reproducible way
- Assisting with the administrative support on the project, including coordination of events and activities
What will you bring to the role?
- A BA or equivalent degree or experience in a social science discipline
- Skilled in social science research, particularly experienced in database construction and use of excel, or other data management tools
- Reading frequency in Chinese (in addition to English)
