Job Description:

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a background in Computer Vision / AI? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

Applications are invited for a full-time Research Fellow to join the tREMOr and ENSURE-AI projects. tREMOr is a timely project that will process videos taken from smartphones to measure key biomarkers for patients suffering from hand tremor. The ultimate aim is to create and evaluate software that will be used in clinical practice to diagnose and monitor patients with movement disorders. A brief description of preliminary work on this project can be found at: https://youtu.be/5lU2yRsma1k. [JE1] [DW2] ENSURE-AI is a flagship project of the National Pathology Imaging Co-operative (NPIC), in which we aim to ensure open and fair assessment of common pathology AI tools.

The post holder will be based in the Leeds Institute of Health Sciences in the School of Medicine and will work closely with NPIC.

The main purpose of this role is to lead the project data analysis on both projects. The work in tREMOr involves analysing pilot data to test the feasibility of multiple computer vision/signal processing approaches for measuring tremor amplitude. The second phase will clinically validate the method and investigate deep learning approaches for tremor diagnosis. The work for ENSURE-AI will involve analysing common computer vision metrics (e.g. DICE, macro-accuracy) between multiple algorithms. Workload will be split approximately 75%/25% between tREMOr and ENSURE-AI

Therefore, applicants are sought who hold, or are close to the completion of, a PhD in Computer vision, Signal Processing, Machine learning, or closely related disciplines. They will have experience of programming in Python and in dealing with time series (video or sensor) data.
