Job Description:
The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.
We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.
Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.
The role
The Campagnolo's lab focuses on the study of microvascular cell interactions, using advanced co-culture functional assays and 3D models. This project is part of a larger programme to generate in vitro models of microvascular dysfunction. The candidate will be working with primary human cardiac microvascular cells to generate a model of heart failure.
The post-holder will:
• Develop, plan and execute in a timely manner a personal research project relating to 3D microvascular cardiac spheroids and heart failure. Tasks include the design, set-up, running and optimisation of experiments, in consultation and collaboration with the principle investigator and other members of the research group.
• Analyse and critically interpret data using methodologies appropriate to the field.
• Keep up-to-date with relevant scientific literature.
• Prepare, in consultation with the principle investigator and other colleagues, material for publication in academic journals and for presentation at scientific conferences.
• Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with all internal and external collaborators involved in research related to this project, in particular the co-investigator Dr Carina Dunlop (UCL) and her group.
• Assist in the induction, supervision and mentorship of other research group members.
• Actively participate in and contribute to institute and research group culture and activities, including research meetings, seminars, journal clubs, and shared laboratory duties. To be collegiate and work collaboratively with fellow research group members, and share credit fairly with all contributors. To be supportive of other research group members and offer constructive assistance if needed.
• Maintain complete and accurate records of all research conducted and analysed during the course of employment in this research group.
• Take ownership of own personal professional development and actively communicate with the principle investigator and other department members in seeking training and support required to successfully perform research duties.
This job description is only an outline of the tasks, responsibilities and outcomes required of the role. The jobholder will carry out any other duties as may be reasonably required by his/her line manager.
