An exciting internal opportunity has arisen within the School of Pharmacy’s Technical Services team. We are seeking a Technical Manager to provide health and safety focussed leadership, advice and support across the School of Pharmacy.

You will possess a combination of practical and theoretical technical knowledge, skills and experience and will support compliance with relevant legislation through review, development and implementation of policies and procedures to promote a safe and healthy working environment for staff, students and visitors. You will be responsible for managing critical and urgent issues, as well as continually maintaining and developing health and safety management procedures within a teaching, research and administrative environment, using your technical and relationship building capabilities to ensure best practice and compliance. Accountable to the Health and Safety Committee you will fulfil the functions/responsibilities of the school’s Safety Coordinator role.

You will possess relevant skills and experience in the following key areas:

  • Providing expert advice and recommendations on health and safety requirements, developing and implementing management systems, and ensuring compliance with statutory and university requirements, in liaison with Safety Office partners.
  • Conducting and coordinating local health and safety inspections, overseeing the inspection program, and ensuring that all equipment and processes meet statutory provisions.
  • Developing and maintaining a comprehensive health and safety training systems and ensuring robust record-keeping.
  • Maintaining accurate health and safety documentation, preparing reports for senior leadership, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Providing operational oversight to support colleagues to engage in safe teaching, research and administrative activities.
  • Taking ownership of key assets and supporting infrastructure projects, managing contractors and providing specialist technical advice to researchers and staff.
