    Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

    We are looking for a reliable, organised, and detail-focused Materials Assistants to join our Libraries and Learning Services team.

    This is a hands-on role that plays an important part in ensuring library spaces remain welcoming, functional, and easy to navigate for students and staff. You will help maintain the organisation and accessibility of library collections through accurate shelving, collection maintenance, and general support across library spaces within the General Library.

    Working as part of a supportive team, you will help ensure library materials are correctly shelved, collections remain tidy and accessible, and library users can easily locate the resources they need.

    Note: These are casual roles, paying $28.53 per hour.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Shelving, sorting, and maintaining library collections in an accurate and timely manner
    • Ensuring books and materials are organised correctly according to library classification systems
    • Assisting with shelf reading and identifying misplaced or missing items
    • Helping maintain tidy, safe, and welcoming library spaces for students and staff
    • Assisting with shifting, moving, and reorganising library materials where required
    • Providing friendly and helpful support to library users when needed

    This role involves regular walking, standing, bending, lifting, and moving library materials throughout the day.

    You are dependable, proactive, and enjoy working in a team environment. You have a strong eye for detail and enjoy tasks that require organisation, accuracy, and consistency.

    • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately
    • Good organisational and time management skills
    • Ability to follow processes and work independently when required
    • Comfortable undertaking physical tasks including lifting, bending, and prolonged periods of standing or walking
    • Reliable, punctual, and able to work collaboratively within a team
    • Good communication skills

    Previous experience in a library, retail, customer service, or stock management environment would be beneficial but is not essential.
