Academic Dean (Lancaster University Ghana)

Lancaster University Ghana (LUG) is seeking an experienced academic professional to join us as Academic Dean at our Accra campus — the only British university campus in sub-Saharan Africa.

This is an opportunity to contribute to the continued development of a globally connected institution that combines Lancaster University’s internationally recognised academic strengths with the energy, opportunity and evolving needs of Ghana’s higher education sector.

Working across global and local priorities, the Academic Dean will provide academic direction for a thriving international campus, supporting an excellent student experience, strong academic standards, research development and meaningful partnership activity across the region.

Reporting jointly to Lancaster University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor Global (Digital, International and Sustainability) and the CEO of TAG Ghana, the postholder will become part of Lancaster’s wider transnational education community and contribute to the shared development of the University’s international academic network.

The successful candidate will work with colleagues across the campus to support innovative and industry-relevant programmes, maintain academic quality, encourage professional development and strengthen Lancaster University Ghana’s profile across West Africa and internationally.

This role offers the opportunity to:

• Contribute to the academic direction of a respected British university campus in Africa
• Support the continued development of an established international university partnership
• Develop partnerships with industry, government and academic organisations
• Work closely with Lancaster’s international campuses and transnational Academic Deans
• Support student success, graduate outcomes and regional engagement
• Contribute to globally connected approaches to teaching, research and higher education practice

We are seeking a thoughtful and collaborative academic professional with experience of working in complex higher education environments and a strong understanding of quality assurance, academic governance and transnational education.

The successful candidate will bring sound judgement, academic credibility and the ability to work effectively across cultures, disciplines and stakeholder groups, alongside an approach that is inclusive, collegiate and people-focused.

Experience of international higher education, academic partnership working and regulated environments will be particularly valuable, alongside an understanding of the opportunities and considerations shaping higher education across Africa and globally.
