The principal duties of this role are teaching, research and academic service focussed in areas aligned with our Department’s strengths. You will design, develop and deliver teaching in the Electrical and Electronic, Computer, and Mechatronic Engineering disciplines. Your teaching responsibilities include face-to-face delivery and the coordination of courses, including the design and development of curricula, management of teaching teams, oversight of resources and budgets, and the organisation and support of student learning. The Role: We are seeking an outstanding computational biologist to join the BioFAIR Pathfinder project to develop computational framework for gene regulatory network (GRN) inference methods in single-cell genomics.The project involves curating, harmonising single-cell and multimodal datasets, containerising and running, comparing GRN inference tools as a community resource. The role includes contributing to peer-reviewed publications and developing community, training and engagement opportunities with BioFAIR and ELIXIR-UK Southampton node. You will join the collaborative interdisciplinary environment within the School of Biological Sciences, working alongside a growing computational genomics community at Southampton. You will have access to IRIDIS HPC, with support from RSEs, and also collaborate nationally through BioFAIR project and ELIXIR-UK Southampton Node. About you: You will have a quantitative or RSE background and an interest in applying computational and data-driven methods to single-cell genomics and gene regulation. We are seeking a Post-doctoral Research Fellow to work on the Velux Fonden project, based at the University of Southampton, on a fixed-term contract initially for 24 months with the opportunity for extension to 36 months.The Research Fellow will support the development of GIS-based decision-support-tools for spatial planning, and cumulative effects assessment (CEA) of offshore wind (OW). The role will focus on collecting, processing, and harmonising appropriate geospatial data, providing geospatial data insights, and applying appropriate AI models for geospatial analysis based on the integrated data.This role is part of the project: Decision-support-tools for Spatial Planning and Cumulative Effects Analysis (CEA) of OW in the Greater North Sea Basin (GNSB), funded by the Velux Fonden. The project is cross-disciplinary and delivered by researchers across the University of Southampton through the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute (SMMI).We are seeking candidates with a PhD or equivalent professional qualification in civil/maritime/ocean engineering, geography, oceanography, marine sciences, geology, archaeology, or other, with experience in advanced GIS software for data management, processing & analysis, and preferably, interests & knowledge of offshore renewable energy.
